Themes and Variations

In this collection, George Donald has absorbed memories of previous travels and residencies  in China, Japan, Florida, France – and the travellers' tales these prompted, to offer a series of imagined narratives, stories yet to be told, peopled by characters whose dramas remain unexplained.

Many of the new works, set in the landscape around his Borders studio, belong to a Scottish story-telling tradition in which recurring images intrigue or unsettle, leaving the viewer to imagine the endings of unfinished tales.
